Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

Long story short, I recently installed MSN Messenger to use our new webcam
with the video conferencing software. In order to do this I had to create a
hotmail email account. I don't use this account but rather I use my DSL
cable email account. Prior to creating this hotmail account my Windows
Welcome Screen used to notify me (next to my account name) of new email. Now
it lists email from both of my accounts. Is there any way to modify the
welcome screen? I don't want it reporting any email from hotmail. On top of
that, every time I go to hotmail to "clean off" my messages I don't even have
any. Confused??? I am.

For Passport/Unread Mail Issues:

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords/Remove.

Tip:

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

or:

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)

To remove an account or to change the count manually Go to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
