Post subject: Remote Desktop hanging on XP Pro
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>work_remotely (more info?)

I'm having a problem with my Remote Desktop capability on my PC that's
recently appeared. I can successfully login to the PC and authenticate. The
RD window appears on the client, but things freeze about halfway (it starts
drawing half the screen, then stops). Neither the remote or local keyboard
will work, so I'm left with no option but to reset the server PC.

Strangely, a similar happened when I set up the same PC as an Ultra VNC
server. Things were fine as long as both the client and server PC had both
monitor and keyboard access. But when I disabled input on the server side
(via the toolbar on my VNC session), I lost keyboard input on the VNC client
as well.

So as near as I can figure, something's getting trashed when the "handoff"
of the video and inputs goes from the local server PC to the remote client.
But darned if I know what. I've got NIS 2008 and Spy Doctor 5.1.x, but I
can't imagine either being the culprit.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

matt

Robert,

Thanks for the suggestion, but alas, no dice. The suggestions I found on the
URL were focussed on being unable to connect. I can connect, login, and
start seeing the remote desktop. But things just seem to get hung up
halfway through the "handoff" (for lack of a better word) of the video and
mouse/keyboard input from the target machine to the RD client.
