Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

From Start -> Programs sometimes shows all the program
groups, other times it shows programs recently selected
with a double downward carret indicating more programs.
This also occurs within a program group. How can I
configure XP so that when the programs display they ALL
display everytime? I never want them to truncate and show
only recently selected programs.

I have this same issue with Windows 2000 Professional and
Outlook. I'd prefer to see all programs and options everytime.

If this is covered in a FAQ I couldn't locate it. A search
of this database failed to return any posted messages.

Thank you - Larry Westin

Start - Control Panel - Taskbar & Start Menu - Start Menu - Customise -
Enable Personalised Menus. If Office it's under Tools - Customise, in IE
it's Tools - Internet Options - Advanced.

David,

My P.C. is already set as you suggest, it still lists only
a few of the available programs, with the double down
carrat indicating more exist. Click on the double down
carrat and the remaining programs display. What I'm trying
to do is get the operating system to display ALL programs
each time I click on start -> programs.

Thank you for your input - Larry Westin

Larry;
Before you read the rest of what I wrote, try this:
Right-click Start/Properties/Start menu/Customize/make SURE Scroll Programs
is NOT checked. After I wrote the rest of this I thought, that maybe,
Scroll Programs might be your problem.
The following works for me. Worth a shot.
Right click Start/Properties/Start Menu tab/click Classic Start
Menu/Customize/here's what I have checked;
Display Administrative Tools
Display Run
Enable dragging and dropping
Expand Printers
I would NOT check: Scroll Programs
You can pick what you want
OK/Apply/OK
All of my programs show up. In fact when I go: Start/Programs, there are
three panes showing. However, for example; almost every program listed has
a right carat >that is needed to expand subgroups for each Program listed.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

Wes,

I checked and found my settings exactly as you recommend.
I did make one other change in that I unchecked "Expand
Network Connections." I did that yesterday and it seemed
to work. Because it has worked OK sometimes in the past I
tried it again this morning before responding, and it seems
to be what I want. That is ALL programs shown.

Thanks for your suggestions - Larry Westin
