Post subject: Problems after removing Netware Client
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

Hi All

I am having problems with Windows XP after removing the Novell Netware
client - we are now using a Windows file server.

For some strange reason the Windows XP PC is still dependent on the
Netware server, even though the Netware client has been removed
through Add/Remove Applications in the Control Panel.

Basically, the Windows XP seems to try and access the Novell server
when you right click on a file, or when you double click on a file.
If the Novell server is turned off, it takes up to 2 - 5 minutes for a
response from Explorer (eg opening the file or bringing up a context
menu). If the Novell server is turned on, this happens almost
instantly. The PC just has the Microsoft Windows network client
installed now. This issue happens on both local (ie C: drive) files
and as well as MS Windows Server based files.

We need to be able to remove the Novell server from the network, but
until we have tracked down where, how and why the XP workstations are
still tied to the server, we aren't able to.

Any help appreciated.
