I've rebooted four times with the same result: I click on My Computer and
the window opens but it's blank. Task Manager says My Computer is not
responding. When I close the window my desktop goes away, except for the
wallpaper. After maybe a minute the desktop icons and taskbar reappear, and
I am able to open apps, but not much exploring. If I use a shortcut to a
folder down the tree I can get around there, but not through My Computer, and
if I try to go to another disk using the address bar, it doesn't go.

Any help would be appreciated. It would be very traumatic to have to
reinstall and lose all my drive C: programs and data.

Thanks in advance,
Buck

Network drives or something else displayed in "My Computer" is probably
not available. You might sign off of any network, and remove storage
devices till you get it working. Does the Control Panel open OK? How
about your printers> All these items are displayed in "My Computer".

Click Start, Run, type eventvwr, click OK and check the properties of
the newest couple of events. Maybe you'll get an idea of what device is
the problem.

From a Google Groups post:

"I searched these articles forever and never found a true
solution, but here's what worked for me. The programs
Aladdin DropStuff and Aladdin Expander were somehow
causing a conflict. I removed them and everything began
working. I believe these programs were formerly known as
StuffIt, so you might look for that too.

This worked when registry edits, reinstalls, and system
file checker didn't get me anywhere."
