Network drives or something else displayed in "My Computer" is probably
not available. You might sign off of any network, and remove storage
devices till you get it working. Does the Control Panel open OK? How
about your printers> All these items are displayed in "My Computer".
Click Start, Run, type eventvwr, click OK and check the properties of
the newest couple of events. Maybe you'll get an idea of what device is
the problem.
From a Google Groups post:
"I searched these articles forever and never found a true
solution, but here's what worked for me. The programs
Aladdin DropStuff and Aladdin Expander were somehow
causing a conflict. I removed them and everything began
working. I believe these programs were formerly known as
StuffIt, so you might look for that too.
This worked when registry edits, reinstalls, and system
file checker didn't get me anywhere."
