Post subject: Problem with USB keyboards when installing Windows XP.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

I am using Windows XP. I have available 4 USB keyboards. They all have the
same problem. PS2 keyboards do not have the problem.

The problem always occurs when I enter the Windows XP installation disk from
outside Windows XP. It also always occurs when I enter Windows XP from
inside Windows XP and I select the "New Installation (Advanced)" option .
The "Upgrade (Recommnded)" option entered from inside Windows XP does not
suffer the problem.

There is no problem typing in a "Product Key", but when it comes to the
screen marked "To continue installing Windows XP press Enter", the program
fails to respond to an "ENTER" keystroke. The program has frozen and cannot
continue.

Looks like I don't have any way of reinstalling Windows XP.

From my perspective it is a universal truth that Windows XP cannot be
installed with a USB keyboard, only a PS2 keyboard. Why do I NOT see a lot
of discussion of this fact in the newgroups?

Check the BIOS for an option to enable Legacy USB support, or a similar
wording.
