I am having a problem sharing an ink jet printer connected to LPT1 on an XP
Home computer. I have enabled sharing of the printer on the local computer,
but the other printers on the network can not see it. Does the printer need
to be connected by USB instead of by the parallel port (LPT1) or what??

The physical port type doesn't matter. You have to enable file and printer
sharing and explicitly share the printer.

I also find that sometimes, if I haven't also installed IPX/SPX, if there's
only TCP/IP, things don't appear in the network, though they can be found by
explicit searches.
