Post subject: Problem Installing Printer
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>hardware (more info?)

I have 2 computers, A and B. Both computers are running on XP Professional
SP2. Computer A is installed with a HP LaserJet 1022. Computer B is installed
with Epson Stylus C79. Both printers are using USB interface. As both
computers are in the same network, I shared both printers out, so that
computer A can use the Epson printer, while computer B can use the HP printer.

After all the setup, computer A can use the Epson and HP printers. Computer
B can also connect to both printers. But when printing using the HP, only
blank page comes out. And when I login using administrator account to look at
the HP printer Properties, it tells me that the driver of the printer is not
properly installed. But I tried installing the driver from the CD and also
downloaded the driver from the website to install... all didn't work.

So I tried connecting the HP printer directly to computer B, and install it.
But while installing the printer, I got error message telling me that the
required section was not found in the INF.

I have another computer C. C can successfully connect to both printers and
use them.

Let me tell you some history of computer B. Before using LaserJet 1022, it
was using LaserJet 1100. What should I do?

If you still have the LaserJet 1100 driver installed, try using that driver
with the HP 1022 and if you can print.

It says that the printer driver is not installed on my computer and some
properties of the printer are not accessible. So it prompts me to install the
driver. And when I try to go to the printing preference of the printer, it
prompts me error...

I think you're on the right track - that the old LJ1100 drivers are causing
the problem.

Uninstall both the 1100 and 1022 drivers, and then do a search on the hard
drive for HP drivers. I don't have a Laserjet configured on my computer
right now but, try searching on LJ*.* or HP*.*

Take a good look at the files, and delete any that appear to be LJ1100
related. And if you're not sure, just rename them.

Then re-install the 1022 drivers and try it.

I have 2 computers in a network. Both are using Windows XP Pro. My printers
are HP 952C and HP LaserJet 1020. Widows XP has drivers installed for these
printers as it does for most popular printers so I use them.
I am networked to these printers via a DSL Modem and a Netgear router. I
realize this is different than your setup. However, it is noteworthy that I
have had nothing but grief using "add a printer" from within XP.
I have not had a problem since I switched to software that you can download
from HP for free.To get this software do a Google, or other search, and look
for " HP install network printer wizard" this will get you to HP's site.
Download the software and install it on your computer. It does not consume
much hard drive space so I keep it on my machine at all times for
troubleshooting purposes.
It is software that has been well thought out and easy to us.
I hope this helps you.

Actually I was thinking you still had it installed, since you have removed
it leave it off for now.
If you can't get the proper (1022) driver to work then I would re-install
the 1100 driver and try.

I've tried uninstalling all the printers, deleting all the LJ*.* and HP*.*,
and reinstalling the printer. Still no luck. I also tried downloading and
using the wizard, but still... BUT I solved the problem by using a very old
HP LaserJet printer driver from the list of drivers available for selection.
The driver name is HP LaserJet, with no model number behind. I selected that
driver, and everything worked like miracle... Just that the printout quality
is not as fantastic as it could be. That's all. Thank you for all your help!!!
