Hard to believe, but I just started using Windows XP in the last couple of
weeks. I receive reports in .tif files that I need to print. With Windows
2000 they would open in Acrobat Reader and I would print from there. With XP,
the files open in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and I have to go through the
print wizard to get them to print. It makes me crazy that I'm required to go
through 6 or seven screens to print out a document. Is there a way to bypass
the wizard? Please?

As *.tif is an image format, this is probably why is it opening in the
Windows Picture & Fax Viewer.

Have you tried the following, to get the TIF files to open in Adobe? I
don't see why it shouldn't now, and the move to XP shouldn't affect this
ability of Adobe. I expect that it has to do with the file associations are
not set correctly

1) Open the file TIF file in Adobe manually i.e. File > Open then browse to
the file, click "Open" etc to see if Adobe Reader will open it. If it could
open TIF's in the past, - see next point below.

2) Associate the TIF format with Adobe, by right-clicking the TIF file and
select "Open With...." and then select the Adobe Reader application from the
list (this may or may not work) to open the file(s). This should then
"Associate" TIF files with Adobe Reader, and the Adobe Reader should then
open TIF files from then on, which will hopefully then make the printing
task simpler.

Otherwise, if all else fails, you could ask the person who is sending you
the reports to send it in PDF format rather than as a TIF file.

On the subject of the print wizard in the Picture & Fax Viewer, I expect it
is necessary, to format the TIF image correctly to print to the paper size
that you select. I'm suprised there's no way to save the settings, so you
can use the same setting every time, rather than having to go through the
wizard each time you print.
