Is there any way to utilize the "print screen" key without additional
software?? I have a Dell E310 with a Dell 962 All in one printer. Any info
would help...

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display, including the
Desktop Wallpaper, to the clipboard. Pressing <ALT>+<PrtScn> copies
only the active Window to the clipboard (iow, into RAM). To view the
screen capture, open a graphics program, such as MS Paint, and press
<CTRL>+V. This will paste the contents of the clipboard (your
screenshot) into the open file, and allow you to view it or save it as a
file for later use.

Back in the days of DOS, the PrintScrn key used to print the screen.
But in all versions of Windows, this works differently, and the name
of the key is now an anachronism.

To use the key, press it to capture an image of the entire screen, or
press alt-PrintScrn to capture an image of the active window. Either
one captures the image to the Windows clipboard. Once it's in the
clipboard you can paste (Ctrl-V) it into any application that supports
graphics (Windows Paint, other graphics programs, even your favorite
word processor). You can edit or add to the image as you wish, then
print it.

This ability to manipulate the image in a program before printing it
is an improvement over the original DOS method of just printing it.
But if you'd like that old facility back, there are several
third-party freeware/shareware programs that can do this, such as
PrintKey2000 at
http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/00zwd2/printkey2000.htm

Continuing PA Bear's question and statement - If you don't here's help
http://www.seoconsultants.com/windows/print-screen/ The printscreen key
will only put the data into the clipboard. It needs some program to get it
to the printer.

And to make it save the window or part of a window there is a small good
FREE program that will take the print screen key and save the selected
option to a file that can be used in any other application that will take a
graphic file. I use ScreenHunter 5 free from
http://www.wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter_free.htm

Download, install and then set the particulars of the program to use the
PrintScn key as its trigger and the filename and location where you want the
file.

Sure, it's called WordPad.

Press the PrintScreen key, open Wordpad, choose Edit, Paste. Send the
document to the printer.

If you want only the foremost window (there are some limits) instead of the
entire desktop, press alt+printscreen.

With this, you can put screen clips in most word processors.

As I said, in the part of my message you snipped, "But if you'd like

Pressing the Print Screen button copies the whole screen to the clipboard,
you then have to paste the contents an application and then print from
there. Alt-Print Screen copies the active window only.
