Do you have an admin level account on the computer? If so you can access
any files on the system and change the password on any other accounts. Or
you could ask him for it?

Or see if you can login to the built in Administrator account. If this is
XP Home the default password is blank. To access this account start the
computer in safe mode. Restart it, as the BIOS splash screen disappears
repeatedly tap the F8 key to bring up the Advanced Options menu with Safe
Mode as one choice. Highlight that, press enter. At the Welcome Screen the
Administrator account will appear.

For XP Pro it prompts you to add a password when the OS is installed.

There are also utilities for resetting the password for the built in
Administrator account to a blank password.
