Can anyone help me? My 14 year old son has password protected his computer.
I think he is at risk. Is there anyway I can access his computer without
knowing his password?

Do you have an admin level account on the computer? If so you can access
any files on the system and change the password on any other accounts. Or
you could ask him for it?

Or see if you can login to the built in Administrator account. If this is
XP Home the default password is blank. To access this account start the
computer in safe mode. Restart it, as the BIOS splash screen disappears
repeatedly tap the F8 key to bring up the Advanced Options menu with Safe
Mode as one choice. Highlight that, press enter. At the Welcome Screen the
Administrator account will appear.

For XP Pro it prompts you to add a password when the OS is installed.

There are also utilities for resetting the password for the built in
Administrator account to a blank password.

It depends on whether or not it's bios password or a windows password.

This is a Windows password. I started this up in safe mode and used the pw

do?
Thanks!!!

Rock.... I may be the "Goddess of Geekiness" but I'm still in training. I
did start it up in safe mode, and followed you instructions. But am not sure
what to do next. Can you help me understand what I need to do? In very
simple terms?

Thanks.

You said starting in Safe Mode didn't help, correct? You tried the built in
Administrator account and just clicked on it? If the password is blank it
should login to the Administrator account. If no go that password was
changed. If that is the case then you have to use that utility I gave the
link for, to reset the Administrator account password to blank.

Have you asked him for the password? Have you told him you want access to
the computer? Is it your computer or his?
