Beginning yesterday I have not been able to open an email photo attachment
using "Outlook Express." A message comes up telling me to "Create An
Association In The Folder Options Control Panel." Prior to this I have never
had a problem.

Can someone please advise me on how to correct this problem?

Thank You, Jack

If you have lost a file association, you can go to the following website, click the appropriate file association to download the file. Double click the downloaded file to run the fix. There are fixes for all of the most common files there.

It seems that somehow the file associations have been lost.

There are four ways to create or fix file associations:

1. Right click on a document, and click the "open with" button. You will
be presented with likely target applications, and you select the one to use.
Be sure to click the button which means apply this change to all documents
of the selected type.

2. Open the "folder options" tab in the control panel.

3. Using Windows Explorer, open the View tab and select "Folder options"

4. The file associations are stored in the registry. Thus, an intrepid
user can edit them as desired. The "Windows Registry Guide" discusses how
to do this. This is a book that you buy at your favorite bookseller.

Help & Support has a very detailed set of step by step instructions for
creating file associations using either option 2 or option 3. You should
print those instructions because it is too hard to follow them on the
screen.
