I am having a problem with 2 applications that use the notification tray:
Outlook Express and Mailwasher Pro.

For example, when new mail arrives, OE puts a new mail icon in the
Notification Tray. However the process that performs this action is quite
slow. It seems to hang the desktop for a couple of seconds. OE also appears
to hang during the update. Foreground applications are not affected just the
desktop, which does not repaint, and the app performing the Notification
Tray update.

The same issue occurs with Mailwasher Pro. I've tried uninstalling MWP but
it had no effect on the issue.

Does anyone know what might be happening and how I can fix it?

Patrick

I have no experience of Mailwasher Pro. A thought which come to mind.
Is your anti-virus programme set to scan incoming mail?

I use Mailwasher Pro and yes that sometimes happens but at other times
it is pretty fast. I have never understood why this varies as much but
doubt if it is Mailwasher as it seems to be affected by something else.

I download messages manually after review in Mailwasher Pro which I use to
alert me to and screen new email. Send/Receive options in OE are unselected.
Your delay may be occasioned by both OE and Mailwasher Pro trying to access
your server simultaneously on receipt of new email.

Thanks for the idea Keith.

I download manually as well so I don't think it's because of that.

The problem occurs with OE even if Mailwasher is not running.

Patrick.

Thanks Gerry. I'm not using an anti-virus program so it's not related to
that.

Patrick.
