((( I realize this is not a Windows XP issue but don't know where to
post the question))))

I have a new (to me) Dell D-600 Latitude laptop w/XP Pro that works
great. Most of the time I use it with the AC power adapter. Since I
really don't need the battery most of the time, should I remove it while
on the AC adapter and just install it from time to time to keep the
battery charged?

First, the battery would act as a filter for the AC adapter. Second, if you
lost AC power, the battery would continue to operate your laptop, so you
wouldn't lose data by the abrupt shutdown.

It's also a good idea to run the laptop on battery power until the battery
is almost completely discharged. The user's manual should spell out how to
do this.

Why not check at www.dell.com and see what they suggest? They have
all the specs and owner's manuals, they can even tell you have the
Laptop/PC shipped i.e. what hardware/software it had.
