Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

HI all...

I have two monitors set up, and as far as I know its working correctly....
I go into Display Property Settings, set the two monitors, and set the second
monitor to "Extend My Windows Desktop to this computer" enabled... the second
monitor displays my desktop image but none of my Icons, folders, etc on my
second monitor? What do I need to do to do this? to open different folders on
different monitors?

Also, I go the the "Identify" stage of the setup.... shows a 1 on my first
monitor and 2 on my second so... that is correct as far as I know...

Thanks,

Brook

If you open a window on the one monitor, can you then drag it over to the
other? If you normally open your applications maximized, they will fill
the one monitor and you won't be able to drag them - you have to
"restore" the window instead of maximize it before you can drag it to the
other monitor (you can then maximize it on that monitor).
Note that if you have the cables swapped, the one on your right may be
the one that the computer thinks is on the left. That is what the
"identify" function helps you determine - on that same screen you can
drag the monitor icon to the other side to match your physical setup.
Normally, your taskbar will be on whichever monitor you have set as
primary, and many windows (especially notifications) will open on that
monitor by default. If you "auto arrange" your desktop, it will put your
icons on the primary monitor (unless there are enough to fill it, when it
will start to use the secondary monitory). If you do not "auto arrange",
you should be able to drag icons from one monitor to the other.

OK,

I was able to drag the window over to the other monitor...

Thank you very much..

I guess my other question is this...

Can I set it up to open all Excell files or Word Files in the secondary
monitor, or will I have to drag it each time?

Try it.
You aren't going to break anything.
Put Excel in one window and close it there.
Put Word in another window and close it there.
When you open said applications - did they remember where you closed them?
