Wally, yes you probably can. Go to http://www.crucial.com/ They have
a Ram Configurator. Does your Motherboard
support 1G of Ram?

Depends on YOUR mainboard. The question doesn't belong here, though,
as what memory your mainboard needs and how it can be mixed has
absolutely NOTHING to do with the OS.

Ask elsewhere.

It helps when you tell us what motherboard or computer make/model it
is going into.

If it IS possible always ensure the big one is in slot 1 and the smaller
ones follow. This works fine on mine.

I just updated from 1.25GB to 2GM 2 days ago and yes it is possible and as
other suggested, it may also depend on your mainboard.

And when I had 1.25 (1 + 256), it is as houstrained suggested, but I had it
done by the vendor to ensure everything is correct before taking the system
back.

So if you are not comfortable with DIY, just have the vendor do it for you
and usually it's free. Even I had been in H/W industry for very long, now I
don't do any DIY and just let the vendor do their job Smile

Good luck.
