Hi,

Just recently I have been unable to visit any microsoft websites or
connect to updates. I thought first was a virus so did a format and
reinstall but still the problem remains, I can view all other websites
fine.
I'm wondering, do microsoft block access to older versions of XP? I
mean I have been using this for 5 or 6 years. My XP came with my dell so
is oem, have they blocked this?

No, they haven't blocked it.
You might have malware written to normally unused (and not formatted)
sectors on the last track. If it were me I'd try an install from the CD
starting right from the Delete & Recreate partitions so the boundaries
would all be known to be set properly.

What happens when you try to visit Microsoft sites?

What is your XP version and Service Pack? Click Start, Run and in the
box enter:

winver

Click OK and report back the Version, Service Pack and Physical
Memory.

What browser are you using - IE (version # or click Help, About),
Firefox, Chrome, etc.

If you can view all other websites, please view these and do a scans:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
