I have Microsoft Update set to notify me when updates are available and then
I choose when to install them. I installed all the updates this week, but
this particular one didn't install for some reason. So it showed up again
this morning, I downloaded it and said it could install, but again it didn't
install. This has happened three times so far this morning. I've rebooted
the computer each time. I also went to the update website and got it from
there to see if it would make any difference but it didn't.
I'd appreciate any advice on what to do now.
Thanks!

That happens to me once or twice a year. Don't know why. Here's what I
do, for whatever it's worth: When you look into the details for an
update there is usually reference to an article in the Microsoft
Knowledgebase. I just go straight to the MSKB article and get the update
from there. Go figure.

Well that didn't work. I downloaded it but when I tried to run it there was
an error message to the effect that the patach package couldn't be opened.
Again, any ideas will be appreciated.
There was a link in another thread to start a "free Windows Update support
incident request" but it seemed to be a paid service.
Thanks.

You are not alone.
I had the same problem with the same update and XP3 SP3. The pther Net
framework updates went OK. I have had problems in the past with the NFW 1
updates.
