Post subject: Making Common Tasks pane narrower ??

Short of hacking my own shellstyle.dll file, is there any way of making the
Common Tasks pane any narrower?

Even at 1800x1440 I find that this little used area takes too much screen
space.

I know I can turn it off, but I don't want to do that.
