Post subject: MS Update
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>configuration_manage (more info?)

It seems that unless the users are logged in as Administrator (either XP
or W2k), Update will not function properly.

I've even given users Administrative privileges, but it still does not work.

I'd like them to get their updates automatically, but not give them
Administrative rights to their local workstations.

Suggestions?

I believe adding the users to Power Users should given them this
capability.

I'll give that a go, but why would not being in the Administrators group
not do it?

Because Windows Update updates system files which nobody but administrators are allowed to do for obvious reasons.
