I have several Windows XP Pro systems where the local profile is not
updating. I cannot figure out what is causing this issue. Do not use roaming
profiles all local to the system. Use novell client to log into the network.

you might look into Microsoft's profile hive
cleaner.

perhaps using it won't be so much for the
cleaning but to make those profiles
accessible when the cleaner scans them.

unfortunately, I haven't come across a scenerio
as your, so my knowledge is limited in this
area.

sometimes you can try create a new account
as a test.

sometimes the anti virals are misconfigured
and prevent updates and modifications to
the system.

perhaps, it is a group policy setting that is
inadverdently set to prevent a malicious
user from circumventing the policy.

-------------------

since your experiencing this on multiple
systems, there is likely a common denominator.

I'm sure that if some other postologist had
had a suggestion, you've would have received
one by now.

so perhaps there is another newsgroup that
may be more appropriate for your issue and
the above doesn't pan out.

here is a listing of them:

Hi George,

Do a wildcard file search on your system drive for:
*GINA.DLL

You should have "MSGINA.DLL" and "SHGINA.DLL" in your system32 folder.
(GINA = Graphical Identification aNd Authentication)

"The Msgina.dll file interacts with the Winlogon service to provide the
Welcome screen and the Fast User Switching feature. Third-party software can
replace the current Graphical Identification and Authentication data with
their own Graphical Identification and Authentication data. The Fast User
Switching feature and the Microsoft Welcome screen are not available if you
are using a third-party product that replaces the Microsoft Graphical
Identification and Authentication file (Msgina.dll)."

Problem with Novell Client, see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315347/

You might search the Knowledge Base for other Novell issues.

HTH. (Hope This Helps. Smile
