Vista Business

This is strange. IE 7 will not load.

Frankly, I don't know whether this is new, as I've used
Firefox since acquiring this laptop. Various online
comments seem rather confused...

??

PS - I don't want to switch to either a PDP-8 or Ubuntu

Try this:

Right-click on the IE shortcut icon and select the Start without add-ons
option. You can then manage which add-ons are enabled, in Tools | Manage
Add-ons, after you've started IE7.

It's a computer, so no one can be sure of anything. But
unless I've gone blind, or I don't know where to look,
there is NO SUCH OPTION.

Did you right click the IE shortcut icon on your desktop?

Yes

That generates a context menu as expected, but Start
Without Add-ons is NOT on that menu.

Thanks.

The recommendation is to UNINSTALL and REINSTALL. Well,
it appears that IE is tightly integrated with Vista, so
that might be a little difficult. I found an IE7 install
package, but it's clearly marked for XP.

Perhaps install the 8 new beta over it? Or IE6 and live
without 7?

Lon,

Click Start, and then type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box.
Click Internet Explorer "No Add-Ons" at the top of the window.

I was referring to this link that is on the page. It appears it helps add
"Start Without Add-ons" to the context menu..

I successfully installed IE8, which runs fine.

It may be impossible to discover why the context menu
for IE7 was corrupt, but that's history. IE8 seems to be
quite satisfactory.

Thanks for trying...

And IE8 also won't generate the correct context menu!
