Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>perform_maintain (more info?)

I have an ASUS P4C 800 deluxe MB running a RAID 0 and two separate backup
disks in Windows XP, 2GB RAM, P4 3400gHz. System has had occasional blue
screen crashes too brief to see the stop message. It now will not start -
after a few seconds in the first Windows screen it reboots. I tried to
repair from XP disc with either Recovery Console ar a reinstall repair. It
gives a blue screen before the licence page with 'PAGE_FAULT IN NONE PAGED
AREA' and Stop 0x00000050 (0xC32C0000, 0x00000000, 0x8080B20D,0x00000000)
I have tried changing the RAM, and different sizes and different socket
combinations, and different display card. No effect.
Tried adding new XP installation on one of the BU drives successfully if no
RAID drivers included. Can see all system except RAID array - adding RAID
drivers to this installation causes instability, then crash. It then reboots
and restarts after a few seconds in the first windows screen, Stopping
automatic reboot shows the same stop title with Stop: 0x00000050 (0xC6040000,
0x00000000, 0x804DB20D, 0x00000000).
Can anybody help resolve this please?

Sounds like you have done a complete troubleshooting for this
problem. If you can not find any possible updated RAID drivers then
you might be out of luck and you may need to replace the motherboard.

Thanks smlunatick,
I was fearing that might be the case but hoping not! I have tried
downloading new drivers as well - no joy.

Extra detail: The RAID array checks out OK in the Bios - it only crashes
when the window drivers are added. In the new installation, after adding the
driver, XP does its 'found new hardware routine' then crashes - leading to
the failed boot desribed

Thanks

Hi Andrew E,
Yes it goes thro the F6 OK and accepts the RAID drivers from floppy later.
It fails after the 'enter' to install XP but before the licence agreement is
displayed for F8 accetance. The boot menu for RAID is accessible and shows
the array to be healthy. I tried running the repair option from this menu on
the array and the response was that there was nothing to do.
I have tested the memory with 'memory test', and tried different sticks as
well (brand new from Crucial). I will try the Microsoft one you suggest as
well.
Thanks for your ideas
David K

Metest showed no faults a few dayas ago. Microsoft memory tester found
numerous faults, but, moving 'faulty'stick to another slot would change the
result. memeory that was good would be bad elsewhere and vice versa. I
removed the RAID array and reran - all memory checks out as good.
I tested the individual drives of the RAID array with Spinrite - both
appeared OK. ??

I conclude that there is either something wrong with the RAID chip on the MB
or there is something nasty in the RAID installation if XP? Does anybody
have any better ideas please?!

Thanks Dave K
