Hi there,
i did a search before posting and didn't find any real help with my problem,
so I am giving it a shot.
i have an HP TX1000 laptop. It has 2 ir ports for the remote. Both have
stopped working.
This happened about 2 weeks ago, and I thought it was an issue with the
scanner software I had installed, so i uninstalled that and they were working
again. Then a few days later, dead.
i completely restored the computer and they were working again. I
reinstalled all my software (not the scanner software just in case) and a few
days later dead again.
I have tried HP tech support, with no luck.
When looking at the Sysytem Information, i can see in the Software
Environment>System Drivers, that there are 2 IR drivers one named HIDIR.SYS
and one USBCIR.sys. Both are disabled, and I don't know how they were
disabled or how to enable them.
A few things....
-No IR devices show in the device manager, so I can't "enable" the driver
there.
-I don't see anything in my BIOS to enable IR.
-someone here in another post mentioned a windows update that somehow
affected the IR. The only update I see that even seems like it could be
related is a media center update called April 2007 Cumulative update. And as
of today, I have restored back as far as I could using system restore.
-I have googled and searched for 3 days now and have found NOTHING. The
little bit I found on these forums tonight was the closest I have seen to any
of the same issue.
I am just so frustrated since they were working find before. i don't
believe it to be a hardware issue as the complete restore had them working
again.
If there is anyone out there who has ANY suggestions, that would be awesome!!
Thanks in advance

Jamie,
Try checking a Vista report for specific errors and corrective measures to
take: Click on Start (icon) and select All Programs. Then, select
Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions. When that report opens, select
from among the Tasks on the left margin and elsewhere. Peruse the report and
look for any specific information about what caused your problem (or other
problems while you're at it). If you get some insight from the report, take
the corrective action suggested in the report. Just something to try, since
Vista logs errors and hopefully it will in this case. Let us know whether
any of this is useful. We like to know, too.

I have a SONY VAIO VGN-AR21S notebook. Same problem with IR port. Doesn't
show in the device list of VISTA!

No luck for me also. They gave some tips about installing the XP infrared
driver. BUT as usual there aren't any infrared drivers in the orginal XP
drivers LOL

missed the piece where you mentioned did not show in device manager.
do you have a restore point right after that successful restore 2
weeks ago you can go back to?
if yes, does IR work again?
