I can't find anything about this in the knowledgebase.

The W3SVC has started throwing the following error in the system event log:
"The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code."

And when I attempt to start it through service control manager, I get a
dialog stating "Unexpected error 0x88ff2740." and it refuses to start.

I have tried removing IIS and reinstalling to no avail.

Please help.

Thanks,
Nathan Manning

Yes, it gave me a clue what to look for. I didn't actually find the culprit,
but I deleted old websites and dead folders, and it cleared up.
