I have Vista Home Premium factory installed on my new computer. The Task
Menu does not have Hibernate as a choice. I changed the Change What The
Power Buttons Do and to Hibernation when Sleep is clicked. I then tried
typing powercfg -H ON in the command line above Search was unable to get
anything except search features. I then when to Command Prompt and typed in
powercfg -H ON and clicked Enter. Message reads that I do not have
permission to enable or disable the Hibernate feature. I then tried WinKey+R
and in Run typed powercfg -H On and got the message that windows does not
recognize the command power or it just blinks the command prompt screen for
a second. Nothing makes Hibernate appear on the Task Menue and I am unable
to figure out a way to get my computer to Hibernate - a feature I need. Your
help is appreciated! |

My computer is a desktop and this information applies to a mobile one. Does
Windows have a Fix for no Hibernate on a desktop computer? |

Hello Ryka,
I am able to set Hybrid Hibernate and Hibernate settings on my desktop by
following the procedure in this Windows Help topic, which is linked to from
the Help topic I suggested to you in my previous mail. Here's the link to
the Change power management settings topic:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/d48c9f1d-2e69-4e6d...49-5c4d
In step 5 of the procedure, you'll need to expand the "Sleep" settings on
the "Advanced settings" tab in the "Power options" dialog to get at the
hibernation settings.
I hope this information helps you this time. If it doesn't, let me know in
more detail what you are trying to accomplish, and then perhaps I can
provide better assistance. |

I finally found the Hibernate in the Advanced settings and was able to set
it for 20 minutes, but.....this means I am unable to Hibernate whenever I
choose? And there's still no Hibernate choice on the task menu. Anyway to
get one? This way I wouldn't be having to choose to wake it up after every
20 minutes away or have to wait 20 minutes for it to Hibernate at the end of
the night. At least this is better than no Hibernate, but it's still a
nuisance and for all the money I spent for a new computer I almost wish I
had put XP on instead. I like 90% of Vista but the little glitches
(Hibernation and some compatibility issues) are annoying.

Thanks for the feedback, Ryka. I have passed your issue and our
communication to the feature team for their consideration. |

I hope you are able to resolve this missing feature in my Vista Home
Premium. I miss the convenience of Hibernation - it's a hassle to have to
Shut Down every night and then start all over again the next day. I have
tried every suggestion and to no avail. There must be some way to Download
Hibernate onto my OS. |

Have you tried powercfg -h on from and "elevated" command prompt (type
cmd in the search box above the Start Orb, and when cmd.exe appears at the top,
right click on it and select Run as Administrator)?

Type cmd in the search box above the Start Orb on the Taskbar, when cmd.exe
appears at the top of the Start Menu window, right click on it and select "Run
as Administrator", in the command prompt window type powercfg -h on .and
press enter.

The error code that you posted indicates that there is not enough disk space
available. Hibernation requires a block of available disk space equal to
the amount of RAM installed in your computer.
The error indicates that you do not have sufficient disk space to use the
Hibernate function.

Thanks that was helpful! But that is the other problem that i have. I have
my local disc divided in two and suddenly local disc C is full. i did a
cleanup disc but that is not enough to free space. I also got a message from
symantec that i got bloodhound.exploit.6
Do you know if the problem is because i got that virus.
