Genuine Version of Vista

Try validating here http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ . If you have a
problem, contact Gateway as previously mentioned.

If Vista was installed as an OEM product, there should be a label somewhere
on the computer, or in some piece of documentation that you got, that has a
16 digit number (actually, letters and numbers) on it. The next time you
get the "not Genuine" message you can call MS, give them the number you
found and you should then be "Genuine". Looks like Gateway didn't do that
step for you. If you can't get the number this way...then call Gateway.
