Fresh XP install on SATA

48bit LBA was introduced with XP since SP1a.

If you dont mind SP2, then use a slipstreamed XP Home SP2 install media.

Bart has a guide here http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#wxp but you can also use
nLite, which can also slipstream storage drivers into the media.

Ok next problem

My CD Burner drive has failed me miserably, no longer works, so i cannot
make a bootable cd. Is there any other way i can fix this problem?

Start machine in dos and install from USB flash media.

Need more details. What motherboard do you have?

ASUS M2N-MX SE. 4200+ Athlon XP Dual core
It recognises my HD as 300gb but won't reboot

There are a variety of causes that type of problem. One of them is simply a
defective HDD (notwithstanding that the BIOS and/or the OS detects the
drive).

Since this is a fresh install of the OS I assume there's no data on that
disk that you need. So have you tried another fresh-install of the OS?
Always with the same problem?

Another thing to try is to boot to your XP installation CD and access the
Recovery Console (the first "R" during setup). Use the chkdsk /r command and
see if that corrects the problem.

You might also want to check out the disk with the HDD diagnostic utility
available from the disk's manufacturer.
