Control Panel > Folder Options > Restore Defaults

OK, fine...but what _are_ the defaults?

I am trying to chane all to *List* except for some, where I want *details*
for these (and their subfolders*

I think the default is either Tiles or Icons. To set as List, open an
Explorer window such as My Computer, set things up the exact way you want
them (List, Status Bar, etc.) and then go to Folder Options and use the
"Apply to all windows" button.

This is a global setting and you can't globally set more than one view in XP
as you can in Vista.

That's one for my *Keep* folder!

Maybe it's time to move to Vista...
(Change of subject)
..hmmmmm...does Vista allowme to change that (awful) font used in Control
Panel > Folder Options and other similar windows? I _think_ it is ms sans
serif, but I am not sure.
This font is the bane of my life, as I find it VERY hard to read, even with
any level of magnification. ( I am very visually impaired BTW)

I have never found a way to change it in XP, and I would buy Vista today if
it allowed me to!

There are a number of ways to change the system font (Tahoma) in XP:
