Due to hard drive failure, I installed a new hard drive, reinstalled
Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2, updates, and most of my apps.
Several things are missing. 1. The Power settings in Control
Panel/Screen Saver - I have it set to Turn Off Monitor After 5
minutes. This is not working. 2. I was able to play streaming audio
thru Real Player. This is not working. There are no sounds. I don't
want the annoying Windows sounds (boot, shut down, etc.) but I do want
to be able to play music. Any suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Hi mortmid,

Did you install the proper Sound Drivers for your Sound Card or Sound Chip on the motherboard? Worry about stopping the Windows sounds, after you get the Sounds working, not before.

I really don't know where to look for the drivers. I do have a
drivers disk that came with the computer when it was first delivered,
and I suppose the vendor pre-loaded the drivers, as well as some other
stuff. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll post here if the search is
successful.

Hi Mort,

Tried sending you additional information directly to you, but got a Mail Delivery Failure. Can you send me your E-mail Address, directly? Got a Question to ask.
