Post subject: Dialup problems - have to dial phone by hand!
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

When I was using a wireless connection on my laptop, everything was fine. I
could go back and forth between wireless and broadband without any problems
(except the odd informaitional popup now and then.)

Then I started using dialup at home. That was ok until I went to use a
wireless connection again. All hell broke loose. I had to change all sorts
of configuration settings to get it to work, and it would work for awhile,
then I'd have to change them again. But, with lots of fiddling around, I was
able to get it to work.

So I get back home again and start using dialup again. Now it doesn't work
the same. It used to dial automatically when I asked it to make a
connection. Now a little popup comes up, I have to pick up the phone and
dial by hand, then hit the "ok" button and hang up. Often it doesn't connect
the first time, or it connects and then drops, or it get confused - and it
seems to be getting worse. Several times, when I connected and used IM and
not the browser, then later tried to use the browser, the browser claimed I
was not connected even though I was still communicating via IM. Finally I
realized that if I just hit the "connect" button on the popup it would let me
use the browser while leaving the existing connection up.

How do I get dialup to dial the phone automatically again? I'd also like to
be able to use a wireless connection at times without it disabling my ability
to later access dialup.

Thanks.

Reinstall the ISP software and it should recreate the dialer applet.
