How can I delete the task bar at the top of the screen
and the version number of XP in the lower right hand
corner?

Thanks!

To remove version.
set HKCU\control panel\desktop\PaintDesktopVersion to 0

Why would you want to delete the taskbar?
Not sure if it is possible to delete the taskbar, but you can have it
autohide. Right click on taskbar and choose Unlock Taskbar. Then right click
on taskbar and choose Properties and check "auto-hide the taskbar".
