Cursor woes

I recently had to have my IT guys nuke my drive to get rid
of some nasty worms. They re-installed XP pro but now for
some reason my cursor jumps all over the place when I'm
typing. It'll go from current line up 2 or 3 and start to
overwrite text or go from the dialogue box to the CC or BC
box. I went back to IT and the guy told me to dissable the
onboard mouse pad (sensor). It was not an issue before and
I can't see why it would be now?? I have an IBM T30.
Anyone out there know what I can possibly do? I got the
IBM updated drivers, I've downloaded all the windows stuff
I could but nothing seems to work.
