Hi
I got a machine after five years on Win2k, and it came with Norton
Internet Security Edition. The Norton made it so I was unable to access
any of the sites I take care of, and I uninstalled it. I couldn't boot
the machine...had to unplug the peripherals..they don't tell you this
anywhere, I found it out by chatting to India.
BUT , I now have a physical Firewall, (netgear), so I turned off the
WinXP firewall. I still can't upload files via email nor via FTP, (using
leechftp, IE, Dreamweaver...all fail).
This didn't happen with the win2k machine, and the hard drive is dead on
that, so I can't set that up as a slave or boot from it.
Help??

Hi,
Here is what I will do in your situation.
I will call the ISP for their assistance.
Usually they have very good technical staff with them.
But before you do that, here is something you can do.
Try using the ftp command in the command prompt. It is used like this:
ftp www.mywebsite.com
It will prompt you for a user name and password if your connection is
correct.
Otherwise it will give you an error message.
If so, your firewall might be blocking the ftp access. You will have to
reconfigure the firewall so that it will allow the ftp client program to
access the internet.
Did you know that you can do ftp through windows explorer?
Shafiee.

Oh and if you are using Norton Antivirus 2005, you will have to configure
the Internet Worm Protection feature to enable your ftp client's access to
the internet. Just click Options > Internet Worm Protection > Program
Control, and add your client program to the list.

Thanks Shafiee... very sound advice, which I've tried to no avail. I
even uninstalled Norton completely as it conflicted with a software
system I have.
I used the ISP's help desk, and the poor guy was just as confused...we
went through all the settings he could think of, and we tried using the
site that does the speed test on broadbands, testmy.net, and again, it
just kept hanging there... no luck at all.
Since it was a broadband connection, I logged on to my dial-up, (back
up) service, and I have been able to load files, so it has to be ISP
related. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the work around is.
Any advice, such as what you have given, is deeply appreciated.
