Does anyone know of a list of unnecessary services that can be turned off
without harm--and speed up startup/opeation?
I already have done a TrueImage restore one time and do not want to go
through it again.
Thanks,
Seth |

"Unnecessary" depends entirely upon *your* particular needs.
Don't use Avast Anitivirus?
-- disable "avast! iAVS4 Control Service" and "avast! Antivirus"
Don't have speakers attached to your computer?
-- disable "Windows Audio"
Prefer to manually assign IRQs and resources at the BIOS level rather than
use Plug aNd Play?
-- disable " UPnP Device Host
And so forth.

Why would you want to disable your Avast Anti-virus?
It uses the least resources of any anti-virus!!!
Take out norton, trend micro, McAfee.
You give BAD advice!
Do you want hime to screw his syatyem up!

You may want to look at blackviper.com before you make any change. It gives
you an ideal of what is necessary for the O/S and what is not.

If you "Don't use Avast Anitivirus", then its services, obviously, are not
needed.
Just as obviously, if you *DO* use Avast Anitivirus, then its services,
obviously, *are* needed.
You ,obviously, have poor reading comprehension skills.

A long-since killfiled, know-it-all idiot who can't follow the discussion.
If you want to discuss anti-virus, then the best course of action is NONE.
Use safe surfing habits, employ proper personal maintenance on the PC,
do not open e-mail with attachments from which you don't preview the
source before opening. Anti-virus has become a huge scam resulting
in bloated, system-infesting, speed reducing, invasive, and somewhat
expensive software. AVG seems to be the least damaging AV offering.
If you want to discuss running background "services" which can be eliminated
in the VISTA OS, someone has to first compile the results of a serious study
on the issue. Vista doesn't want you turning *anything* off, no matter how
wasteful the drain on the system or how obnoxiously redundant they may be.
