I just got one of those internal multi memory card reader/writers that plugs
into the motherboard via usb
all works fine, but now always in explorer there's 4 extra drives and the
icon in the taskbar to safely remove hardware.
my question is, can i get rid of all that, and have it only show one drive
when a card is actually present, along with the icon to safely remove? for
example when you plug a thumb drive in, a new 'removable drive' appears in
explorer and the icon to safely remove... then when you take it out it's
gone... that's what im trying to get happen. i want it to act like that
when i put a card in, rather than say there's 4 empty removable disks there
always.
The cd that came with it only has drivers for previous versions of windows
as they were not needed for xp... im pretty sure what im asking is possible,
2 friends with different brand card readers act in that fashion so im hoping
it's just some settings i need to change with XP
thx |

If your friends media driver only detects when a card is pluged in it would
likely be as a result of a specific card reader driver.
What you are seeing is win default

My USB drive letter manager (USBDLM) can remove the drive
letters. It brings back the letter(s) when you put a card
in the reader.
