Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

Hello,

I have Samsung UMPC Q1 with XP on it.

It has Broadcom Bluetooth chip 2045

I tried connecting external GPS receiver, but the PC claims there are
no services on the receiver.
I connected external USB Bluetooth device, and it can work and
identify the services on the GPS receiver, it also work fine on my
other laptop (Thinkpad), so I guess the issue is the BT drivers on my
UMPC.

Can it be upgraded? Where do I find the SW as its not on Boradcom

Regards,
Roni

It looks like you have a problem where your XP will automatically
"use" the Microsoft Bluettoth protocol stacj, instead of Widcomm's
(Broadcom) version. Microsoft's Bluetooth "stack" is "certified" for
XP but only give a "very" limited Bluetooth devices (when using SP2.)

Here is where to find the Broadcom BT software:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/bluetooth_update.php

and here is a "possible" patch to by-pass Microsoft's Bluetooth:
