I just finished reading an article on the Microsoft web site, "Windows XP
Backup Made Easy" by Ed Bott. It's dated July of 2003 and I'm wondering if
what is stated is still the same or if changes have been made since then.

The article states "All in all, you can count on backing up 5 GB of data in
as little as 10 minutes. And you don't need to worry about shutting down
running programs, either—thanks to a feature called volume shadow copy, the
Backup utility can safely create a copy of any file, even if it's currently
in use."

Is this statement still true? I'm not concerned with the amount of data or
the speed. I need to backup files that have an application that runs 24/7
accessing them and the technology "Volume Shadow Copy" used within the backup
utility of Windows XP says it will do this.

If not, can you point me to something that will?

Thanks for your help, Tom

Yes, it is true but in some conditions it can fail. So the best method will be
try this.

Ayush, thank you for responding. I think that I'll give Backup4all a try.
It's interesting that their web site state that it uses "volume shadow copy"
as well. I wonder if it might have the same problems that Microsoft Backup
does, in the fact that they're both using the same underlying technology.
