The instructions are not quite clear. I set up bitlocker to be sure it would
work on my system, the after reboot it automagically encrypted the disk. I
wanted to use a pin. Are there specific instructions for doing this? Thank
you.

If you have enabled the advanced BitLocker startup options it will ask you
during setup what kind of key you want to use. Once BitLocker is turned on
and running you need to use the manage-bde.wsf script to change the keys. Run
this command from an elevated command prompt to see how to use it:
cscript c:\windows\system32\manage-bde.wsf -protectors -add /?

To enable the advanced startup options follow the appropriate directions here:

It didn't automagically do anything.
It gives a clear notification that after reboot it will start the
encryption process.

So I gues there's no way when you have a compatible TPM, that you should use
a startup pin?
I enabled it in group policy, both to allow user to select and require a
startup pin, and it does nothing different than before.
