Post subject: Access to Directories.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)

I recently installed Mcaffee anti virus V10. The program will not run because
there are residual files from an older edition on the HD. Using XP I
attempted to delete these files but was denied access. I went to properties
and changed the file attributes with no boxes selected. I went to the root
directory and attempted to delete the files in question but was again denied
access. How do I delete files/directories that have access denied?

Would appreciate any help.

Garry

How did you uninstall the earlier version?

You may have to uninstall v10, and then reinstall the older edition.
You then uninstall the older edition using Add / Remove Programs
facility accessed by selecting Start, Control Panel, Add / Remove
Programs. Finally reinstall v10.

Norton and McAfee have a reputation for being difficult to uninstall.

Hope this helps.
