I've not been able to sync my Windows Mobile to my laptop

My new laptop has windows vista, not sure if this is related but
thought I'd throw that in. I have not been able to sync my windows
mobile htc with my laptop and I have to do that so I can do a hard
restart on my phone as the internet and email doesn't work on it.
After over an hour on phone with my cell phone company I was told the
only option is to do a hard restart and with over 600 names in my
contacts I don't want to do this manually.......help me please!

What device do you have and are you getting any errors?
