Archived from groups: microsoft>public>pocketpc>ebooks, others (more info?)

All:

Some of you have posted that when you tap on a .lit file that it does not
open the Reader but instead you get a message telling you that it can't find
the program or that the program is not signed. After some research we have
discovered a small syntactical error in the registry and have a resolution
to this:

Open Notepad on your desktop.
Copy and paste the following into the notepad window:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eBook\Shell\Open\Command]
@="\"\Program Files\\Microsoft Reader\\MSReader.exe\" \"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eBook\Shell\Open\Command]
@="\"\Program Files\\Microsoft Reader\\MSReader.exe\" \"%1\""

Save the file with a .reg extension (e.g. something like ReaderOpen.reg)
Move or copy this file onto your device
Tap on the file on your device.
This should install the fix

If you should encounter further issues or you require further assistance
(e.g. don't feel comfortable creating files for this purpose) please feel
free to contact me offline.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

umm strange I posted a much longer article than that. Heres what I
origanally posted.

ok maybe i am using it wrong but i still cant get it to work, useing
the reg file or useing the tweaks programe, any help appreciated

1) I copied the Reg File as per Christines origanal post, no luck it
doesn't recognize reg files.
2) used PocketTweaks to check file associations all associations are
correct.
3) removed the associations for lit and ebo and reassinged them - same.

few more details please... which tweaks program, exactly what steps did
you take, what did you use to modify the registry, etc, etc.

Again. You really need to give some
info and description ....... it may help identify what is happening. A
summary is not really enough to help understand,

those two HKEY lines above look identical to me - perhaps that's why it is
creating problems for some.

Good eyes Bob!

It should be:

>> [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eBook\Shell\Open\Command]
>> @="\"\Program Files\\Microsoft Reader\\MSReader.exe\" \"%1\""
>>
>> [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eBookEBO\Shell\Open\Command]
>> @="\"\Program Files\\Microsoft Reader\\MSReader.exe\" \"%1\""

You really should have only one association for one file type. If you have
two then how does the device operate both keys at once?

Are you describing 2 keys?

Dan:

You need to find either a registry editor and add quotes around the install
location of your reader in the keys I listed below (note: do not include
the %1 in your quotes) or install a program like Resco Explorer that will
perform the associations for you.

Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

Can someone now tell me the steps to go thru to make this work? I have the
pocket tweak program installed, tried redoing the "lit" file association,
reset my pda, but no luck. It looks like someone has the solution but in all
the various postings, I am unsure what I need to do! thanks in advance!
