One of the most annoying quirks in Windows Mobile's Messaging
application is, that when one downloads new messages from a POP server,
that it removes all mails that are already in the inbox. In contrast,
Outlook on the desktop, leaves all messages in the inbox until one
explicitly deletes them or moves them elsewhere, and simply adds the new
one to the list (initially marked as unread).

Why can't Messaging on the PDA not behave the same? One always has to be
EXTREMELY cautious to move message that one want or needs to keep to
some other folder before checking for email again or else they are gone
for good. I find this so brain damaged!!!

The trigger is not the download, but that the messages have been deleted
from the pop3 server itself....

for example, you are traveling and check your messages five times, the
messages should remain on your ppc... get home and pick up the messages
with your desktop email client _which then deletes them from the pop3
server_ the next ppc email pickup will find them deleted from the server
and delete them from the ppc.

First option is to set your desktop client to leave them on the server,
but, (imho) the best option is to move the messages you want to keep to
a different folder which will retain them even when the pop3 messages
are deleted.

IMHO, the best option is to use IMAP, which was designed with retrieval
from multiple PCs/devices in mind. POP can be problematic, as you
describe, when using multiple computers with a single account.

I set up my Tilt to leave messages on the server in mail settings. That way
they stay on the server until i get home and actually delete them with
Outlook. The default setting in Windows Mobile 6.1 is to delete them from
the server, not to save them on the server as one would think. Found that
out the hard way.
