Here is my modified complete removal instructions for the Microsoft Reader
and DRM
components.
To Remove from desktop (IMPORTANT - Even with PPC installs you still have a
desktop component installed that needs to be removed)
On the desktop go to Control Panel | add/remove programs
Find the Microsoft Reader for PPC install entry
Click on modify/uninstall then Ok
Close add/remove and control panel
Make sure that there are no entries on your desktop in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft ActiveSync for:
"Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC"
To Remove from Device (IMPORTANT - Your new install will not be successful
unless you have done a Remove all, choosing the other method will not
removed
the cached version of Reader setup)
Cradle device
Open ActiveSync and sync the device
Go to | Tools | Add/Remove Programs...| (on ActiveSync on the PC)
Select Microsoft Reader and go to the Remove all section at the bottom
Click remove, and OK
Select "Microsoft Activation" and go to the Remove all section at the bottom
Click remove, and OK <<**Note that by doing this you'll need to reactivate
your PocketPC**>>
**** If the add/Remove programs dialog closes at this point, and you drop
back to the ActiveSync window, then Go to | Tools | Add/Remove Programs...|
again within ActiveSync on the PC. Scroll down to Microsoft Reader if it
still shows it has NOT been uninstalled from your Pocket PC! You'll need to
at this point go to your Pocket PC, and there tap | Start (menu) | Settings
| System | Remove Programs (icon) | Highlight Microsoft Reader and then tap
on Remove. I suggest soft resetting your Pocket PC at this point, and again
checking in Start (menu) | Settings | System | Remove Programs (icon) | for
Microsoft Reader. It should not be there. Re-cradle you PocketPC and allow
it to again sync.
Verify that the files and registry entries listed below have been removed
from your device. These files should no longer be on your device or
removable media. ***I believe at this point that if Microsoft Reader is NOT
listed in either the PC ActiveSync Tools | Add/Remove Programs... and it is
not listed on your Pocket PC, in | Start (menu) | Settings | System | Remove
Programs (icon) | then it should be safe to attempt to install it again.
Either Run MSReaderPPCUSASetup.exe again or re-download it and runit again.
Note that this file should be 2.28 MB in size and not 2.25 MB in size. If
your file is 2.25 MB in size I believe you have a copy of the old 2.4
version of reader, the new 2.4.1 version is 2.28 MB in size, and will state
right after you click on "Next >" END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR MICROSOFT
READER 2.4.1 on the License Agreement page.
The following info is for thoes who wish to confirm that the old reader has
been removed.
Make sure that there are no folders on your desktop in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft ActiveSync for:
"Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC"
"Microsoft Activation"
If either folder exist they have not been uninstalled from your PC,
successfully!
Files installed by the Reader: (maybe in either \My Device\Windows, \My
Device\Storage Card\Windows, or \My Device\Storage Card\Program
Files\Microsoft Reader\ (***Note that Storage Card may also be SD Card in
some systems.***)
