Greetings!

My H5550 has suddenly stopped synchronising via it's USB cradle.
A balloon appears with the message in the subject line. Clicking
indicates that the device 'malfunctioned' 'windows does not
recognize it' and 'replace the device' Sad

I have tried the iPaq at another site (with a perfectly working
H4150) and immediately got the same results when inserting my
iPaq into his cradle/PC.

Tried a hard reset - same results.

So, I guess it needs a repair. Anyone know what has failed and/or
what is involved in fixing it?

Meanwhile I am trying to Sync with WiFi . . . . boy is that
confusing!

Thanks,

Jim Kelly

Have you tried another cable/cradle?

I had a similar problem and did a soft reset; the problem was corrected.

There is a chance that I have overstressed the connection at the
iPaq's base (in a car mount). Is the H5550 easy to open to check
these things?

Thanks,

Jim

I have it too, on two PCs with three cables (USB). In installed AS 3.8 on
one PC, no help. I have done everything except a hard reset, and really
don't want to do that.

I have Soft reset it at least 20 times to no avail.

Added info - AS works fine through the COM port.

See if you can find the cd that came with that specific (important)
ipaq, then,

Connect the ipaq

find and remove the ipaq from the device manager

disconnect the ipaq

insert the cd

find wceusbsh.inf file

right click on that file

select "install"

reboot both the ppc and the pc

after reboot, with the ipaq _turned off_ connect the ipaq

Please report back on this.

In addition to possibly solving any "driver" or "port" issue, when you
reconnect, the usb connect process (or lack of connect process) will
give important clues... keep notes on what transpires from the moment of
connect to the next 5 min such as the usb baloon messages.
