Just wondering if theres away to synch Contacts, Calendar & Task data in my
Vista Laptop to my Windows Mobile 5. I am able do synch it in the past with
Outlook (on my older XP machine) but do not want to install Outlook in my
new Vista Laptop.

I already downloaded and installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 on my
Vista machine but still can't seem to sync the contacts, calendar and task
data.

Thanks
Gregory

Unfortunately, WMDC only supports syncing with Outlook.

Correct. MS, IMO, has really dropped the ball on this. WMDC has been out
well over a year, WinMo devices no longer include a copy of Outlook, like
they did in the past, so there currently is no "out of the box" sync
solution for Windows Mobile that doesn't require additional purchases.
That's pretty embarrassing, IMO.

While Vista's Mail, Contacts, and Calendar apps are good enough for my needs,
I personally look at Outlook likeWMDC- a requirement to use my Windows
Mobile device! However, the only suggestion I have, if you're really
determined NOT to install Outlook, is to sync the device OTA with Google
Calendar and GMail Contacts using 3rd party utilities like Goosync, and
then export the Google info to Vista's suite.

It's a resource hog, certainly, but Outlook 2k7 is a pretty nice program
overall, if a bit of overkill for most users.

I keep hoping MS will eventually add Vista PIM support to WMDC, but I'm
not holding my breath...

I didn't realize XTND had added Vista PIM support. At $60, however, it's
more than half the price of Outlook!

Thanks Todd,
Outlook is a bit over the top for me and I already got used the the Vista
version of Contacts etc. The last time I installed Outlook on an XP system I
felt like my whole desktop started to slow down after the installation.

Have you heard of this product
http://www.sybase.com/products/allproductsa-z/xtndconnectpc ? It claims to
be able to translate and synch with Vista and other contact info.
