Please coordinate your information with Microsoft Product Support Services.
I contacted them a few days ago trying to find out what happend to the
Microsoft Reader Website. They wrote back to say that they got the same
response that I did (We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found).
They suggested I wait 24 hours and try again. They had no idea why the site
was down. I stumbled across this discussion group today. I'm glad to
finally have an answer. I hope the new site is up soon.
Thanks

To try and clarify from the scattered information contained in the op;

There is no specific "MsReader" site at the moment... since the original
MsReader site url was not posted, we will have to wait until the url is
posted by the reader team.

The activation site posted does not exist.

Most of the links that come up from a microsoft search for reader are
currently broken.

All of the url's posted in the op are either download or content sites.

>> ...arriving shortly! <<

Again a very relative statement... in MS speak, could well mean a decade
or so Wink

MS (unfortunately) has the habit of simply "turning off" sites which
then generate "generic" error messages which can be very misleading...
such as "try again later" something that may well happen if the site
does not like the browser you are using... a formula guaranteed to
generate much frustration.

Try this for activation:

http://das.microsoft.com/activate/default.asp

Though I can state from experience, the site loads but you still can't
activate. Something about the servers are down for repair/upgrades.

That, combined with their general lackadaisical attitude about making
Reader more broadly and generally useful, has led to me no longer using
it, even though, in some ways, it's still a superior book reader. If
they were smart, the Sony Reader, the Kindle, and a bunch of other
devices would support MS Reader. I still use it on my PDA for legacy
stuff, but I don't acquire any new content. Sad.

The site(s) seem to be back up, but activation is still wierd. When I try
to activate, I get IE asking to run several ActiveX programs, which is
normal. What is not normal is that they seem to be unsigned or are left
over from some test systems.

From the IE popup:
Name: Microsoft Reader Activation Client Component
Publisher: Test Company (unverified publisher)

I can get a screenshot to any 'softies if someone wants to send me an email
or contact via MVP channels.

From what I remember the MS Reader ActiveX components have always been like
this.
