Archived from groups: misc>phone>mobile>iphone (more info?)

Using iTunes 7.7 in WinXP Pro. My "C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes"
folder has a bunch of iT*.tmp files doing nothing but taking up space.

Earlier today, I deleted over 2400 of them dating back to April and
totaling 28 Gigabytes. Right now, there are 9 more taking up 141
megabytes.

What's going on here? Why isn't iTunes cleaning up after itself?

So far, I've tried it with another computer login, I've tried deleting
the 'iTunes Library.itl' file and re-importing the 'iTunes Music
Library.xml' file per Apple Support and I've tried uninstalling/
reinstalling iTunes.

The other login appeared to work as it should. Neither the reinstall
nor the deletion/recreation of the library fixed anything.

So it's not the +install+ of iTunes, per se, but rather something in my
computer login profile.

This may or may not be a coincidence, but occasionally my wallpaper
will fail to load when I start my computer, and the wallpaper manager
will complain about a missing config file, and often my Logitech
keyboard/mouse driver will have corrupted settings.

I've also eliminated my antivirus as being the problem by turning it
off while using iTunes in such a way that the temp files are known to
be created.

Oh, and these temp files are copies of the "iTunes Music Library.xml"
file.
