I have a V3m with a dying battery so I started checking prices, the
local places are all asking $40, the exact same battery on-line is
around $15 or less, I've found genuine Motorola batteries for as low
as $2!
http://vibecellular.com/Motorola-Original-LithiumIon-Battery-BR50/M/B0...GH00I.h
So the question is: How do the local places justify their prices?
NOTE: Just coincidence, most on-line places charge a shipping fee
which is about the same as the local sales tax on $40... odd...

Neither do the stores. One place I know of sells "new" batteries that
have been on the shelf for over a year. There's no guarantee you're
getting a fresh battery from any vendor.

And this one?
motorola batteryDec 12, 2008
This battery was bought to replace the old battery which was not
holding it's charge. It has worked like a charm since I bought it
(about 2 months ago)

I get all my batteries from ebay. Last time I bought for my V3m (last Nov),
it was $4.50 + $6 s/h. For that price, I received the battery, a phone case
and a recharger.
Batteries were as good as the originals. It's still in the phone and holding
a charge. |

I went through Amazon.com to get the one that I ordered.

I don't mean to be offensive, but I get offended by questions like these and
wonder how people can ask them. Do you think the online seller has nearly
the same overhead as the brick and mortar store? Rent? Employees? Social
Security taxes for those employees? Furnishings? Insurance? Advertising? Do
you think he wastes any time on customer service? Or do you think that
customer service is "free" because it doesn't cost you anything? How many
people do you think bother to return the defective batteries to the online
store when the return shipping charges cost more than the battery? The store
owner has to take them all back and cope with all the complaints. Are you
sure you're getting first quality products from that online retailer, or
might they be grey market, or even black market ones?
What business are you in, if I might ask? Why do you charge what you charge?
Why not less? Why do you need to get paid the salary you take home?
Geez. |

Yes, many of them ARE brick and mortar stores.

I'm retired now, I charged what I needed to charge to meet the
competition, I didn't whine about competition, I matched their prices
and made a profit doing so.

So I could become very well-off and retire at 38, that's why.

Yeah, geez.

Justify? You must be some kind of naive liberal twit to even ask the
question. They charge all the traffic will bear-- and need to cover their
inventory, store rent, insurance, wages, insurance, taxes (including the
social security they pay for each employee, utilities, etc., etc., etc.
PLUS-- make a profit. |

Hardly. You must be some kind of total jerk to make that comment.

As do the on-line stores.

Or more likely they are pulls from junk phones etc could be the reason
the word new isn't stated. Typically if it doesn't say new there is a
reason.

Me thinks you're also full of it to a large extent. If you were in business
then you know that no one can sell an item for $2.00 that a store is selling
for $40. That price differential should raise a red flag to you. What do
you think, that the manufacturer sells those batteries to the retailer for
$1.00? Are you kidding or what? I am in business and know those price
differentials are not realistic nor reasonable without something being
wrong. While not always true, most of the time you do get what you paid
for, as the adage goes. If you told me the store sells it for $40 and
someone else is selling it for $35, I might be able to buy that.
I have a close friend who sells designer name ladies tops in a flea market.
They sell for $60 to $80 in the store. He sells them for $5.00. What he
doesn't tell his customers is that all his stuff are seconds. He then takes
them to a tailor he has contracted to fix as many of the errors as possible.
Then he sells them as new.
That's the real world, buddy.
Believe me, you didn't "price match your competition" and still become
"well-off" at 38. I can tell. Your business math is too naive.
To anyone reading this guys stuff and believing it, I have a bridge to sell
you in Alaska.
Really geez. |

Not at all. You really know little about business fella, and it shows big
time. Many, many "online stores" are solo guys sitting in a basement office
with a fax machine, charge card machine, computer and a telephone, and some
possibly shady sources. The legit brick n mortar stores selling online are
dumping excess, usually discontinued or excess inventory, else they're
surely not making a profit and are struggling to keep afloat. |

I just bought two more Nokia OEM-branded BP-5L for $16 from an Amazon
online store called OEM Only. Because Li-Ion batteries are explosive in
failure modes, I don't like to screw around with the expensive
electronics.
The first two batteries I got from these guys were "nearly new", but had
been installed in something because the gold contacts on them were
scratched. They work just fine and display full capacity. The last two
I got were brand new, but they must get them in bulk as the boxes
they're packaged in are not OEM boxes. I've yet to get a bad battery.
How "they" sleep at night charging so much for the batteries and simple
drop-in chargers I bought direct from China on the net for $1.86 each (I
bought 6), remains a mystery. I never buy accessories from sellphone
companies....which is crazy. |
