Hiya!

I'm stuck. I got a refurbished Iphone back because my "didn't operate at
full power", interesting way to name a broken battery. Smile

Now I want to get all the nice tools from Cydia back on the Iphone but
there is no Windows-software for a jailbrake yet, or? I did download
a jailbraked firmware but after unrar-ing the 2 parts I get only a
folder that looks like an unpacked firmwareimage:

19.08.2009 05:10 <DIR> .fseventsd
16.09.2009 02:17 233.380.554 018-5343-086.dmg
19.08.2009 07:54 12.615.028 018-5348-086.dmg
16.09.2009 02:13 13.667.700 018-5351-086.dmg
19.08.2009 08:33 21.637 BuildManifesto.plist
19.08.2009 05:40 <DIR> Firmware
16.09.2009 02:13 4.077.620 kernelcache.release.s5l8900x
19.08.2009 08:07 1.803 Restore.plist

What do I do with it? Or where I get a firmware-file that I can use
via Itunes(in WinXP, ofcourse)?

Which iPhone model do you have?
There is no jailbreak yet for 3GS with OS 3.1. Jailbreak for OS 3.1 only
works with 3G (and earlier?) iPhones.

Dennis,

You may very well be out of luck, sorry. If your replacement iPhone has
Apple's 3.1, chances are that its baseband was already upgraded,
rendering JB impossible at this point in time.

A future relese of RedSn0w may work.

From de Dev-Team blog (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/):

Baseband 101

The Œbaseband¹ is the generic nickname given to the internal components
of the iPhone that handle the phone calls and Internet access. This
Œbaseband¹ is a tiny and unique independent computer system that runs
inside your iPhone, it is separate to the main system that handles the
applications (such as email and google maps) and it talks to the main
part of the phone over an internal communications network. Think of it
like a cable modem or other peripheral that is attached to your home PC
that needs occasional updates. When a software update is released and
presented to you within iTunes the baseband is sometimes updated (to
fix bugs or add new features). The 3.1 update for the iPhone 3G
contains such an update, so running the vanilla updater straight away
with iTunes will reprogram and update the baseband.

BTW, the Mac files you received (*.dmg) are Mac OS X disk image files,
I don´t know of any way to mount them in Windows environments.

If you want to attempt to JB, despite the above. Putting the iPhone in
DFU mode is NOT necessary, simply plug it into your computer (once you
have either the original 3.0 IPSW or a pwned version of either 3.0 or
3.1). Once the iPhone appears in iTunes, from the Summary screen,
simply control-click on "Restore" and you should be able to select the
desired IPSW. Then let iTunes restore the iPhone "to factory
condition", leave it plugged and you will be asked, after the iPhone
reboots, if you want to restore from a back-up or treat it as new
iPhone.

Obviously, backing-up all your data before starting is stronlgy
suggested.

Hope this helps.

Luis.

Download the IPSW for 3.0 to your Windows PC.
Open iTunes.
Connect the phone to your PC.
Put it in restore mode (press Sleep (c. 2 secs) until the Apple logo appears
(c. 6 secs) and without releasing Sleep, press Home until the Apple
disappears - whence without releasing Home, release Sleep).
After c. 12 secs, iTunes will say 'Detected iPhone in Restore Mode'.
Press Shift immediately and you'll get a prompt as to which IPSW you want to
restore.
Select the downloaded file and iTunes will restore it (you'll get the
restoration progress bar on the phone).
Once you're back with 3.0, bust it back outa Jail.

The website even says that Jailbraking of 3.1 works, but they haven't
released a tool for Windows yet. I have no problem with it that I can't
use it without t-mobile, I have t-mobile! Razz

Well it would be enough to just hold Shift + clicking the
restorebutton... but still. Where I find a pwned 3.1-firmware for the 3G? Razz

I don't think you'll be able to unlock yet, though.
3.1 updated the radio firmware so that it can't be backflashed and unlocked.
Sure it's only a matter of time though.

Nope, it was a rarfile in to parts, I know when a file comes in
different formats, really. It was divided in two downloads from
rapidshit.
